Overview

The Cadillac Escalade has the distinction of being the first light truck in the history of its manufacturer. The iconic Cadillac Escalade is an all-new large luxury sport utility vehicle that gets an innovative, fuel-saving 2-Mode Hybrid system. All versions of the eight-passenger 2010 Cadillac Escalade run on either gasoline or E85 ethanol. The Escalade Hybrid is likely to offer 50 per cent improvement in fuel economy in city driving as well as high levels of capability. The 6.2L V-8 engine is now equipped with fuel-saving Active Fuel Management technology, which automatically shuts off four cylinders in certain low-load driving conditions. Side thorax air bags are added to the front outboard seats and a revised inner door design for enhanced side-impact protection. Locking steering column is new so also the standard Platinum-model clock. USB connection in center console enables stored audio files to play through the audio system and battery charging for some handheld devices.

Powertrain And Performance

Besides the hybrid version, the other models that will be available in the 2010 Cadillac Escalade lineup are the Escalade ESV and the Escalade EXT. The 2010 Cadillac Escalade will be offered with either a rear-wheel or all?wheel drive configurations that will tow up to 6,000 pounds and 5,700 pounds, respectively. The 2-Mode Hybrid system will come with an electrically variable transmission (EVT) and a 300-volt hydride Energy Storage System. The EVT will consist of two electric motors and four fixed gears. The standard 332-horsepower, 6.0-liter V-8 Gen IV gasoline powerplant will be fitted with Active Fuel Management and late-intake valve closing technology.

The 2010 Cadillac Escalade will be loaded with standard convenience features such as an 8-inch, touch-screen navigation system; tri-zone climate system; 42-volt variable-assist power steering; leather door trim and center console; nuance leather-trimmed seats; a power-assisted liftgate that opens or closes with the touch of a button; memory for the driver?s seat; trip computer; HID headlamps; 14-way power front seats with lumbar adjustment; rain-sensing wipers; cruise control; heated front- and second-row bucket seats; power-adjustable pedals; remote keyless entry; auto-dimming rearview mirror; power exterior mirrors; Bose AM/FM radio with 6-disc CD changer; XM satellite radio with one-year subscription.

Safety Features

The 2010 Cadillac Escalade will be equipped with a host of standard safety features such as 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes; side curtain airbags for all outboard occupants; electronic stability control with a rollover sensor; traction control; theft-deterrent system; road sensing suspension with adjustable shock absorbers; and the OnStar telematics system.
